Bebe’s Journey to Becoming Pepe
He appeared during lockdown.
Like so many others at that time, he had been left behind. The beaches were quiet, the streets were still, and uncertainty hung in the air. In the middle of it all, this small dog found himself alone.
We called him Bebe.
By chance, a student living nearby noticed him. She fell in love almost immediately. What began as feeding and checking on him turned into something more — a bond.
Bebe was neutered, cared for, and slowly began to trust again. As the student prepared to return home to Germany, she made a decision: he would not be left behind a second time.
With community support and careful planning, Bebe travelled across the world to start a new chapter.
In Germany, he was renamed Pepe — a name that suited his new life. He was welcomed into a loving home with a young boy who quickly became his best friend.
From a deserted beach in Mauritius to a family home in Europe, Pepe’s story is a reminder that even in uncertain times, kindness can change everything.
He was one of the lucky ones.
