Bring Your Smartest Friends: Quiz Night on 11 September

There is a catamaran day for two sitting on the prize table. Next to it: a handmade silver necklace, an osteopath consultation, a restaurant voucher, a hamper of dog food, a massage, and a ten-litre keg of beer with the tap included. All of it donated by local businesses who back the work, and more arriving every week.

Now the good part. Seats are limited — around sixty, at tables of six. That is a small room for that many prizes.

So bring your smartest friends. Come as a full team of six, or tell us how many you are and we will seat you with good company; some of the best evenings start that way. Questions are in English and French, and nothing on the sheet calls for a specialist — general knowledge, a bit of luck, and somebody at the table who remembers song lyrics.

It is on Friday 11 September at Le Jardin de Beau Vallon in Mahébourg, arrival from 6:30pm at the bar by the pool. Tickets are Rs 1,250 per person with dinner included: snacks to start, then your choice of beef, chicken or veggie burger — homemade patties — with fries and salad, and dessert. Drinks are served at the bar on the night.

And it all goes back into the work. One sterilisation costs about Rs 1,500, and every one of them stops a litter being born on the street. The evening pays for sterilisation days, vet bills, food and parasite treatment for the strays of the south. We are volunteers — no salaries, no office.
