A Week on the Ground: Rescue, Care, and Reality

Moments of Progress, Moments of Goodbye

Some weeks bring progress, relief, and small victories. Others remind us how fragile life on the street can be. This was a week that held both.

Two orphaned puppies were rescued from halfway up Lion Mountain and, after care and coordination, were placed into a loving new home, where they can now grow up safe and secure.

In Blue Bay, a male stray dog was finally caught after several attempts and taken for sterilisation at PAWS Mauritius Union Vale. He has now been reunited with his already sterilised female companion and can continue living peacefully on the beach without contributing to further litters.

A mother and son from Plaine Magnien were also transported for sterilisation, with plans already in place to help the remaining dog as soon as possible.

Alongside these efforts, regular feeding continued in Le Bouchon — a familiar and challenging area where consistency matters. These feeding rounds, carried out each week, are made possible through the continued support of PAWS Care UK.

Not all outcomes were happy ones. A dog rescued from Le Bouchon earlier in the week was already very unwell. He spent his final days in care, surrounded by kindness, but sadly did not survive.

Weeks like this reflect the full reality of animal welfare work: moments of hope, moments of heartbreak, and the commitment to keep going through both. We are deeply grateful to everyone who supports our association and makes it possible for us to continue showing up — in the good times and the difficult ones.
